Nanobubble Generation Control Panel for a Water Treatment Works
R&R Engineering designed, manufactured and tested a dedicated control panel for a water treatment nanobubble system, driving the process pump and linking the site into telemetry. A 15kW ABB ACS580 drive and a Siemens SIMATIC PLC and HMI platform sit behind door-interlocked isolation and coordinated surge protection, in an IP55 double-door enclosure.

Finished panel ready for site — door-interlocked isolation and full local HMI and VSD control on the front face

THE PROJECT
The panel forms the control and power hub for a nanobubble generation system at a water treatment site, driving the duty pump that feeds the process and supplying an associated air compressor, dryer and the site kiosk building services — lighting, heating, ventilation and a telemetry outstation for remote monitoring.
The build had to bring VSD-driven pump control, PLC-based process logic and remote telemetry together in a single wall-mounted enclosure suited to an outdoor kiosk location, with full door-interlocked isolation and coordinated safety and surge protection for lone maintenance access.
THE SOLUTION
- 1200 x 1000 x 277mm mild steel double-door enclosure, RAL7035, IP55, wall-mounted
- 80A 4-pole door-interlocked main isolator
- Type II+III 40kA surge protection device c/w MCB
- Dedicated safety relay circuit for the emergency stop system, with E-stop pushbutton, safety-activated LED indicator and global fault reset
- 15kW ABB ACS580 variable speed drive controlling the duty pump, keypad operated, with Hand/Off/Auto selection and running/fault indication
- Siemens SIMATIC S7-1200 PLC (CPU 1214C) with analogue input and output modules
- Siemens Scalance Ethernet switch for PLC-to-HMI communication
- Siemens SIMATIC 10.1" HMI touchscreen (MTP1000 Unified Comfort) for local operation
- Nortech NX12 telemetry unit integrating the panel into the client's telemetry network
- Individually switched MCB circuits for kiosk lighting, heating, ventilation and telemetry outstation supplies
- Thermostatically controlled ventilation with filtered intake and exhaust, plus a 230VAC service socket for maintenance tools
- Designed, manufactured and tested at R&R's Newtownards facility
SPECIFICATION
- 1 x 80A 4P door-interlocked isolator
- 1 x Type II+III 40kA surge protection device c/w MCB
- 1 x 15kW ABB ACS580 variable speed drive
- 1 x Siemens SIMATIC S7-1200 PLC (CPU 1214C) c/w analogue I/O
- 1 x Siemens SIMATIC 10.1" HMI (MTP1000 Unified Comfort)
- 1 x Nortech NX12 telemetry unit
PROJECT DETAILS
- Enclosure: Mild steel, double-door, RAL7035
- Scope: Design, manufacture and testing
- Completed: 2026
THE OUTCOME
The completed panel gives the water treatment site a single point of control for its nanobubble process, from pump speed through to kiosk building services, with local HMI operation backed by PLC logic and remote telemetry for the operator’s SCADA system. Door-interlocked isolation, coordinated surge protection and a dedicated safety relay circuit protect personnel carrying out routine or fault-finding work, and the IP55 enclosure with thermostatically controlled ventilation suits the outdoor kiosk installation.
