Motor Control & Process Automation

R&R Engineering’s Control and Automation division has been built up over many years, developing deep expertise across a wide range of hardware and software platforms. As an independent systems integrator, we are not tied to a single manufacturer — which means we can select and implement the right solution for each application, rather than fitting every project to a preferred product.

Our experience spans everything from simple instrumentation loops and standalone PID controllers through to complex multi-site PLC networks and full SCADA systems. We work across water and waste treatment, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, power generation, building services and industrial process control.

PLC & SCADA Systems

R&R Engineering provides process control systems and SCADA solutions based on most of the available technologies, both as integral parts of a Motor Control Centre and as standalone units. We have established recognised systems integration experience with two of the industry’s leading platforms:

  • Rockwell Automation — extensive systems integration experience across a broad range of industrial applications
  • Mitsubishi — proven expertise in control and automation solutions

We are able to provide any combination of the following:

  • Standalone PLC systems
  • Multiple PLCs interconnected via communications networks, each with LOIs
  • Multiple PLCs and LOIs interconnected by fibre optic networks
  • Full site control systems including multiple PLCs and SCADA terminals
  • Retro-fitting SCADA systems to existing PLC networks
  • Replacement of outdated SCADA systems
  • Interfacing plant control systems to off-site telemetry networks

Process Control & Manufacturing Automation

R&R Engineering has developed and tested discrete, regulatory and batch process control systems across a wide range of industries. Our configuration code is developed in a modular fashion — each module is fully tested for correct functionality before overall system configuration is completed, using both hardware and software simulation to verify performance.

Our experience extends beyond DCS, SCADA, HMI and PLC configuration to include the integration of field devices such as scanners and weigh scales. As an independent integrator, we have the expertise to interface systems from a variety of control vendor platforms into a single, unified plant-wide system.

We understand what it takes to connect control systems with enterprise-level software over plant-wide networks — meeting our customers’ requirements for data collection, processing and reporting. We don’t consider a project complete until the system is performing to specification and full as-built documentation has been delivered.

Documentation

Comprehensive documentation is a key part of every project R&R Engineering undertakes. All Control and Automation projects are provided with a full documentation set as standard:

  • User Requirement Specification (URS)
  • Functional Design Specification (FDS)
  • Software Design Specification (SDS)
  • Factory Acceptance Test Schedule
  • Site Acceptance Test Schedule

All aspects of our Control and Automation work are governed by our BS EN ISO 9001:2000 quality assurance procedures.

Commissioning & Testing

Factory testing is carried out on every component within each assembly by a dedicated team of trained and qualified personnel, working to R&R Engineering’s own procedures or supplemented with the client’s specific requirements. This is our assurance that every product leaving our facility is one hundred percent correct.

Customer Acceptance Testing is available on request, allowing you to verify quality and functionality before equipment is dispatched.

On-site commissioning by R&R Engineering’s own engineers is recommended wherever possible. Our personnel are familiar with every aspect of our product range — from small conventional wall-mounted control panels to major intelligent Motor Control Centres. Working to agreed commissioning plans and method statements, we provide the right people to commission every aspect of the assembly and the connected plant, delivering the finished operational system working exactly as required.

Full documentation is provided at each stage of commissioning, recording all settings, calibrations and test results. This information forms part of the final operation and maintenance manuals handed over at the close of each contract.
